Dr Vela earned a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and a medical degree from Nova-Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in North Miami Beach, Florida. He completed his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Garden City Hospital in Michigan and an Upper Extremity Surgery fellowship Tampa General Hospital in Florida.

Dr. Vela is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who treats sport related and occupational injuries, arthritis and trauma of upper extremities. He specializes in the use of innovative techniques in rotator cuff repair and shoulder arthroscopy, wrist reconstruction and nerve releases

Dr Vela also serves as the Program Director for the Orthopedic Surgery residency program.

 
 
 
 

Nancy Bell began her career as a nurse with education at Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon; she has a Bachelor’s in Nursing from OHSU and a Master’s in Public Health from OSU with a focus in Health Policy and Management.

 

She joined Samaritan Health Services in October 1979 to manage the general surgery unit. She worked in several clinical units at Good Samaritan Hospital prior to assuming a position in Professional Development.

 

She is currently the Vice President of Academic Affairs as well as the ADME for the Office of Medical Education. Prior to joining Samaritan, she specialized in the care of Pediatric and Obstetric patients, both in Oregon and Maine, and functioned as a flight nurse in geographically remote areas. Ms. Bell has taught courses at Linn Benton Community College and serves as guest lecturer at Oregon State University
